This official G7 French presidency high-level policy debate is jointly organized by UNESCO and France, under France’s G7 Presidency, in close collaboration with GPE and other partners.
It builds on the momentum of the education-focused side event at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), and the joint statement by representatives of governments, public development banks, philanthropic organizations, international institutions, civil society, and the business sector which highlighted the need to better align education priorities with fiscal frameworks, debt management, development strategies and sustainable finance agendas. Convened in a G7 context, the event offers a timely opportunity to continue the dialogue between key stakeholders in education, development, and finance, reaffirming the central role of education in sustainable development.
The event is fully aligned with the aid architecture reform agenda promoted by the G7, i.e. mobilizing a broader and more diversified range of financing, reducing aid dependencies and strengthening effectiveness, coordination and accountability. In a context of constrained public resources and shifting global financing and governance dynamics, the education sector offers an insight into how these reforms can be translated into efficient sustainable financing solutions.
