Social Development Division (SDD)

The Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration is jointly organized by ESCAP and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand.

The objective of the Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026 is to spotlight critical issues for building inclusive societies through legal empowerment. The commemoration will provide a platform to review progress, identify gaps, and share good practices in advancing gender equality in access to justice. It will explore policy and programmatic interventions to address institutional barriers, discriminatory laws, and weak enforcement that hinder women’s and girls’ access to justice across formal and informal systems. The discussions will be framed within the context of key frameworks, including the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
