Overview:

With the recent COP decisions, the role of the RCC experts becomes increasingly critical for advancing and enabling the effective usage of A6 and carbon pricing instruments in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

Since the RCC Experts already possess thematic expertise, this calibration workshop targets the strategic level and aims to align vision, planning, and priorities, share practical experiences, and to ensure coherent messaging and consistent approaches for impactful, effective support.

Given that the RCC experts serve as ambassadors and as an important intersection and leverage between Headquarters and Parties & other regional/national stakeholders on the ground, the workshop drives synergies and interconnection between the global and regional level. By fostering peer learning and joint planning, the workshop maximizes the impact of the global and regional Article 6 Capacity Building work and strengthens cross-regional- and cross-unit collaboration.

Objectives:

The workshop builds on the capacity building program adopted as per CMA 3 mandate and CMA7 decisions, which place strong emphasis on strengthening Article 6 capacity-building, particularly by improving Parties’ readiness to participate in cooperative approaches and addressing the recurring challenges identified in reporting and implementation. The CMA7 guidance calls for targeted technical support and deeper engagement with national authorities and experts. The recent COP decisions focus on targeting, impact and M&E. Thus, this workshop aims to:

                         i.         Align the understanding of UNFCCC priorities and strategies as well as of the evolving A6 landscape and the implications of recent decisions

ii.         Co-develop joint elements of the A6CB and RCC workplans and a standardized approach to planning, evaluation, monitoring and reporting related to the workplan

iii.         Develop a strategic, coherent approach to critical questions and sensitive aspects of the A6 domain and A6 actors' landscape

iv.         Ensure efficient and effective implementation through harmonized processes and materials/templates

                       v.         Evaluate best practices and lessons learned, needs and opportunities to co-develop solutions and targeted stakeholder engagement approaches

vi.         Strengthen cross-regional collaboration and alignment, ensuring coherent and effective support to countries across all 6 RCCs

Taking a holistic approach, the workshop will cover aspects related to NDCs & Article 6 as well as to the CDM Transition to Article 6.4 mechanism.
