Course Overview
This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to plan, manage, and support Communications and Information Systems (CIS) in United Nations peace operations. It focuses on ensuring secure, interoperable, and resilient CIS capabilities that enable effective command and control, operational planning, and mission support across complex, multi-component environments.
Participants will gain hands-on experience applying UN CIS planning frameworks and tools across strategic, operational, and tactical levels, with a strong emphasis on real-world problem-solving and decision-making.
Course Aim
The aim of the course is to strengthen participants’ ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver CIS support to UN peace operations by addressing the following core functions:

Command and Control Support – Ensuring seamless information flow between UN leadership and field operatives

Secure Communications – Maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability of mission-critical data

Data and Information Management – Supporting intelligence collection, analysis, and information sharing

Operational Planning Tools – Enabling informed strategic and operational decision-making
-
Logistics and Resource Coordination – Facilitating real-time tracking and management of personnel and assets
Key Areas Covered
Participants will engage with the full CIS lifecycle in UN peace operations, including:

Mission CIS Planning Frameworks – Understanding CIS planning, implementation, and sustainment in UN missions

Operational Risk Assessment – Identifying threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation measures in CIS infrastructure

Interoperability Strategies – Enabling coordination across military, police, civilian, and mission support components

Contingency Planning – Designing resilient CIS systems for crisis and degraded environments
Course Structure
The course is delivered in three integrated phases:
Part 1: Virtual Learning (1 week): 16-20 February 2026

Foundational concepts, frameworks, and terminology

Prepares participants for in-person and applied components
Part 2: In-Classroom Training (1 week): 2-6 March 2026
