Introduction:
UNFCCC secretariat and its Regional Collaboration Center for MENA and South Asia, in collaboration with the “Environmental Compliance Environment Authority, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman”, is organizing a four-day Regional Workshop on Article 6 and Carbon Pricing focusing on the MENA region. The overarching objective of this workshop is to foster an effective engagement with the cooperative mechanisms, including both market and non-market approaches, established under the Paris Agreement. This workshop forms part of the UNFCCC’s broader regional capacity-building initiatives to address critical gaps in implementing Article 6, which became fully operational following COP 29.
Despite the framework’s potential to mobilize climate finance and accelerate NDC implementation, many Parties face challenges in engaging with Article 6’s cooperative mechanisms-particularly integrating the in the NDC implementation. Some of the reported and observed gaps include limited technical understanding of the associated processes, compliance requirements, key decisions and their implications, and applicable carbon crediting mechanisms.
This workshop will provide hands-on training to enhance clarity on Article 6 rules, foster peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, and strengthen institutional readiness for market-based climate action.
