Since the adoption of the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ in 2013, countries have made steady progress in implementing REDD+ activities. This framework is also recognized under Article 5.2 of the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake further underscored the importance of halting and reversing deforestation and forest degradation by 2030, and reaffirmed the significant role of REDD+ in achieving this goal. However, the current landscape of REDD+ implementation—particularly its interaction with evolving mechanisms under the Paris Agreement—has become increasingly complex. Currently there is no dedicated space for REDD+ countries, donors, and stakeholders to systematically share experiences and lessons learned. In response to this need, the UNFCCC secretariat is developing the concept of a REDD+ community of practice, which would serve as a dedicated platform for dialogue and technical exchange

This meeting will provide an opportunity for REDD+ experts to share experiences and lessons learned on key topics such as national REDD+ strategies, safeguard information systems, forest reference levels, and the linkages between REDD+ and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It will also help identify areas for future collaboration and potential further work by the secretariat. Furthermore, the meeting aims to strengthen transparency and facilitate exchange on access to different sources of results-based finance, supporting countries in their efforts to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation by 2030. In this regard, it is desirable that the nominated REDD+ expert possess sound knowledge and experience in the various elements of REDD+ implementation, including familiarity with the reporting requirements under the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ and other relevant COP decisions. The working language of the meeting will be English.
