DESCRIPTION:\nAt its twelfth session\, the Conference of the Parties to th
 e United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime adopted 
 resolution 12/4 entitled “Enhancing measures to prevent and combat crime
 s that affect the environment falling within the scope of the United Natio
 ns Convention against Transnational Organized Crime”. The resolution req
 uests that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)\, within i
 ts mandate and subject to the availability of extrabudgetary resources\, c
 onvene an open-ended intergovernmental expert group on crimes that affect 
 the environment falling within the scope of the Convention and related off
 ences covered by the Convention\, with interpretation into all official la
 nguages of the UN\, with a mandate:\n(a)   Firstly\, to take stock of th
 e application and collective implementation of the Organized Crime Convent
 ion in addressing such crimes\;\n(b)   Secondly\, to identify any gaps t
 hat may exist in the international legal framework and that could be addre
 ssed under the Convention to prevent and combat such crimes\; \n(c)   T
 hirdly\, to consider possible responses relevant to those gaps\, including
  the possibility\, feasibility and merits of any additional protocol to th
 e Organized Crime Convention.\nThe first session of the open-ended intergo
 vernmental expert group on crimes that affect the environment falling with
 in the scope of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organi
 zed Crime and related offences covered by the Convention was held in Vienn
 a from 30 June to 2 July 2025. Relevant meeting documents\, including the
