On this 50th anniversary year of the BWC, UNODA will organize, in close collaboration with the Republic of Kenya, the first African Conference on the Universalization and Effective Implementation of the BWC.
This event will bring together BWC National Contact Points (NCPs), national experts and representatives of Permanent Missions in Geneva from all African States Parties and States not party , to take stock of progress made in relation to strengthening the BWC in Africa and to discuss challenges related to the universalization and effective implementation of the Convention. Officials from States not party will be invited to the event to benefit from the discussions with States Parties and better identify the benefits of joining the BWC.
The event will also serve as a platform to reflect on wider BWC-related topics, such as efforts undertaken in the context of the intersessional process, including the related Working Group meetings, to strengthen the Convention.
