The Ninth Session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held from 26 to 28 November 2025 in Bangkok. As a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction serves as the intergovernmental legislative forum for advancing disaster risk reduction in the Asia-Pacific region. At its ninth session, the Committee will address several critical issues including: (a) reviewing the expanding disaster risk landscape in Asia and the Pacific, including in relation to intensifying heat; (b) building disaster risk reduction capacity and resilience through innovations in science and technology for the regional implementation of the Secretary-General’s Call to Action on Extreme Heat and Executive Action Plan on Early Warnings for All, 2023-2027; and (c) providing an overview of the work of the secretariat and entities of the United Nations system on disaster risk reduction in Asia and the Pacific.
The Committee session will take place during ESCAP Disaster Resilience Week, which will be held from 25 to 28 November 2025. Various expert group meetings and side events will be held prior to the Committee to enrich its discussions.
The ninth session offers a platform for member States and stakeholders to engage in policy dialogue, share good practices, and explore innovative solutions to strengthen resilience and reduce disaster risks in an era of escalating climate and heat impacts. The session is organized by the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP..
