The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, in partnership with the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment and in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, the Multinational Companies Business Group, and the Circular Packaging Association, is organizing a regional meeting to promote sustainable and integrated development pathways in the Arab region. The meeting will focus on practical solutions to reduce food loss through e-commerce, advance the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus approach, and promote circular economy practices.
It will bring together government representatives, regional experts, and stakeholders to share experiences, present recent initiatives, and discuss the enabling conditions for scaling up these approaches. The event will also serve as a platform to review and gather feedback on a proposed regional cooperation mechanism for the circular economy.
The objectives of the meeting are to:
- Present regional and national guidelines on using e-commerce to reduce food loss in agriculture, along with policy briefs for Algeria and Iraq on applying the WEF Nexus approach.
- Facilitate dialogue on the challenges, opportunities, and readiness of Arab countries to adopt e-commerce and integrated resource management in agriculture.
- Share and gather feedback on the proposed regional cooperation mechanism for circular economy.
- Support discussions on the policy, financial, and operational conditions needed to advance circular economy adoption in the region.
