The sustainable management of plastics is a critical issue for agri-food systems, where their use is rapidly expanding. Ahead of the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva in collaboration with FAO`s Office of Climate Change and Biodiversity is organizing a briefing on agri-plastics management. The briefing will aim to:
• Present the Voluntary Code of Conduct on the Sustainable Use and Management of Plastics in Agriculture and FAO’s work on agri-plastic management.
• Discuss the relevance of the agricultural sector within the new legally binding instrument and in the context of trade policy.
• Facilitate dialogue between government representatives and international organizations.
• Explore opportunities for collaboration and implementation of sustainable practices.
