Substantive Patent Examination from a Public Health Perspective
This two-part webinar, organized by the WHO Secretariat and the WHO Regional Office for Africa in collaboration with the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA), focuses on promoting high-quality patent examination practices that incorporate public health considerations. It aims to enhance the capacity of patent examiners, especially in low- and middle-income countries, to apply intellectual property frameworks that support access to affordable medicines and encourage health-related innovation.
The sessions will provide guidance and training on examining patents for medicines and health products from a public health angle, and foster exchange among patent offices, policymakers, and technical experts. Participants will also be introduced to WHO's public health-oriented approaches to patent examination and encouraged to attend follow-up workshops.
