Course Aim:

  • Command and Control Support: Ensuring seamless information flow between UN leadership and field operatives.
  • Secure Communications: Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of mission-critical data.
  • Data and Information Management: Supporting intelligence gathering and analysis.
  • Operational Planning Tools: Enabling strategic decision-making and execution of peacekeeping operations.
  • Logistics and Resource Coordination: Facilitating real-time tracking of personnel and assets.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Mission CIS Planning Frameworks: Understanding the lifecycle of CIS implementation in UN missions.
  • Operational Risk Assessment: Identifying threats and vulnerabilities in CIS infrastructure.
  • Interoperability Strategies: Ensuring seamless coordination among different mission components.
  • Contingency Planning: Developing resilient systems for crisis management.

Methodology / Course Structure:

The course will be conducted using lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and practical exercises. These will take place in both a classroom and simulation environment, as well as real-world operational areas on-site. Participants will practice the application of CIS planning processes and tools applicable to UN peace operations, with an emphasis on critical thinking and practical problem-solving.

The course will also cover the application of UN CIS service provision and management for UN peacekeeping missions, focusing on developing relationships between:

  • Mission HQ (MHQ)
  • Force HQ (FHQ)
  • Police HQ (PHQ)
  • Mission Support Division / Centre
  • Field Technology Services (FTS)
  • Troop Contributing Countries (TCC)
  • Police Contributing Countries (PCC)

There will be a range of instructors from different member states and missions to expose students to diverse perspectives and experiences. The course has been structured to be highly engaging, ensuring that at least one activity outside of the classroom takes place each day.

Each student must successfully achieve the enabling learning objectives to pass the course. Additionally, students must complete the written confirmation exam.
