The Civil Society Unit in the UN Department of Global Communications organizes this two-part Civil Society Townhall on 12 February 2025. Mr. Maher Nasser, Director of the Outreach Division will moderate the two-part town hall. 

Part 1: A Dialogue with H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly

On the priorities for the 79th Session under the theme:

Unity in Diversity for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere.  

While the President of the General Assembly will announce his priorities for the seventy ninth session to Member States in January 2025, in furtherance of the goal to enhance cooperation with all stakeholders, he intends also to engage with civil society on his priorities to promote a whole of society approach, share best practices and develop innovative, long-term and forward-thinking ideas.

To do so, the President of the General Assembly at its seventy ninth session will convene a Townhall with civil society representatives aiming to amplify marginalised voices, foster innovative sharing of ideas and solutions, enhance collaborative governance and drive progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while leaving no one behind, acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere.

 

Part 2:  The role of civil society engagement in the implementation of the Summit of the Future's Pact for the Future and other Summit outcomes

This segment serves as a moment to showcase civil society contributions towards inclusive multilateralism and efforts in support of the Compact for Digital Cooperation, the Declaration for Future Generations and the Pact for the Future.

The discussion will highlight the importance of the implementation of the three outcome documents of the Summit of the Future and how civil society can support the process. It will also be an opportunity to reflect on the formation of and the continued work of the ImPACT Coalitions that were launched in Nairobi as civil-society generated, diverse stakeholder constituted coalitions which support the implementation of the Pact for the Future.
