The Global Education Coalition: From 2020 to 2030

Launched in 2020 as an emergency response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Global Education Coalition (GEC) has evolved into a dynamic global network of partners committed to advancing education transformation. As we mark its fifth anniversary, we recognize the Coalition’s role in bridging the digital divide, enhancing teacher capacity, fostering youth employability, and advancing gender equality in and through education.

Only five years remain to achieve SDG 4. We need ambitious new mission-oriented approaches to help us meet our global education targets, but also to navigate new emergencies and emerging phenomena that challenge the resilience and relevance of our education systems worldwide.

This year’s annual meeting will be action-focused and activities-based, creating spaces for fostering greater collaboration. The aim is to further develop and grow the Coalition's position as a unique multistakeholder catalyst, in the spirit of SDG 17 and the Global Digital Compact’s call for greater collaboration between governments and non-state actors.

Specifically, the meeting will be an opportunity to drive the continued growth of the Global Skills Academy, new directions for the Global Learning House and the Global Teacher Campus, and the establishment of a facility for country-level work with the Digital Transformation Collaborative (DTC). This will include a capacity building programme for education decision-makers aligned with the Six pillars framework for the digital transformation of education, launched by Coalition members last September. Since then, the framework has become a widely endorsed common language to unpack the essential components of holistic, equitable, sustainable and human-centred approaches to technology and education.
