The Middle East Region (UNDSS MENA Section in Division of Field Operations) comprised of 19 Countries with a number of Special Political and Peace missions is scheduled to have MENA Regional Workshop in Brindisi from 30 September to 4 October 2024. A total of 37 UNDSS Principal/ Chief / Security Adviser’s and Chief Security Officers of UN Peace operations mission (Special Political Missions and Peacekeeping Missions), Regional Security Analysts and personnel from UNDSS HQ including Director and Deputy Director of Division of Field operation will participate in the workshop. Some 5/7 participants will be attending the workshop virtually.
During the workshop, a myriad of subjects and topics relating to UNDSS operations and management are expected to be presented and discussed. The senior leadership will share the UNDSS Strategic guidance and development of the department with the MENA team. Various sections and units of UNDSS HQ will present with the updates/ development on the latest changes in the various functions/ policies and new sections and units in order to discuss/ share ideas and views with the participants to make the security service delivery effective, efficient and client oriented. This also gives the scope to the Principal/ Chief / Security Advisors and Chief Security Officers to share their experience in security risk management including managing various crisis as well as management of security functions within their unique environment which is invaluable learning for others. A visit to the UNLB facility / UNGSC and in in-person meeting with the personnel from UNDSS Log base and UNGSC counter parts is expected to be very helpful for the participants to know and understand the backward linkage arrangement of UNDSS support mechanism.
