The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations (the Division) is offering a Regional Workshop for Latin America on the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement), as part of the Division's programme of activities mandated under General Assembly resolution 77/321 to promote a better understanding of the BBNJ Agreement and to prepare for its entry into force.
The Workshop will be hosted at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, from 14 to 18 October 2024, with the support of the Government of Chile.

Nominees for the in-person Workshop must register through the respective form by 23 August 2024 (extended to 30 August 2024). The user guide for the Indico portal can be found here.
Please note that each nominee is required to register individually. Nominees from States must also be nominated by their Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, in order for their registration to be considered. Registrants from intergovernmental organisations or other relevant entities must upload a formal letter of nomination issued by their organisation or entity.
