“Water is key to food security as it is crucial for agricultural production including livestock, forestry and fishery, as well as along the entire agrifood supply chain. However, water management is a major issue for our societies, given the growing demand for this resource and its increasing scarcity in many parts of the world. Agriculture plays a major role in this demand; food production remains one of the most water-consuming human activities, as agriculture accounts for 70% of total water use and is therefore heavily dependent on water resources. To discuss this topic, this dialogue will:
• connect key actors on water and agroecology to explore how agroecology can address water scarcity and water pollution issues
• discuss the contributions of agroecology to deal with the urgency to manage water more efficiently
• present case studies to demonstrate applications in the field and share lessons learnt, and
• identify concrete pathways to increase synergies and identify linkages between agroecology and water in the context of food systems transformation through policy reform, knowledge creation, and investments.”
