The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing an inception meeting to launch a multi-stakeholder platform for protecting biodiversity under the project “Climate Resilience through Regional Cooperation for Inclusive Sustainable Development” supported by the Government of Sweden.
The aim of this multi-stakeholder platform is to mobilize engagement and action to address priority challenges affecting biodiversity in the Arab region while also identifying opportunities for maximizing opportunities that biodiversity can bring for enhancing climate resilience in the Arab region. The meeting will examine challenges contributing to biodiversity loss and opportunities presented by biodiversity conservation in the region within a changing climate, exchange knowledge and take action on regional challenges affecting biodiversity in the Arab region along three identified themes:
- Nature-based solutions for climate resilience
- Land degradation in arid agricultural ecosystems
- Renewable energy and biodiversity
