Within the framework of regional preparations for the United Nations’ conference for the global midterm comprehensive review of the Water Action Decade (2018-2028) that will be convened from 22 to 24 March 2023 in New York, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Water Action Decade from 18 to 19 May 2022 in Beirut, Lebanon.  

The aim of this Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting is to assess regional progress on water-related goals, and to discuss challenges and opportunities and ways to accelerate the achievement of Water Action Decade objectives. The meeting will also provide a platform for presenting national and regional initiatives and key actions that demonstrate commitment of Arab countries to internationally agreed water goals. The outcomes of this meeting will inform regional decision and policy making mechanisms on water-related topics. In addition, this preparatory meeting will lead to the elaboration of a regional outcome document that reflects regional priorities on water-related issues and opportunities to inform the global process including the UN Secretary General Report for the midterm comprehensive review of the Water Action Decade.  

Representatives of Arab Member States, in addition to senior representatives from relevant regional and national organizations, institutions, academia, private sector and civil society organizations engaged in water-related issues affecting Arab States are invited to participate.
