International Albinism Awareness Day
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the U.N. is proud to support the exhibition “ALBINISM – Shining our Light to the World” by the Spanish photographer Ana Yturralde.
The objective of the exhibition is to celebrate the third International Albinism Awareness day on 13 June by sharing, through this exhibition, the daily life of persons with albinism in Africa. This is a selection of 30 images that match the interest in revealing the daily life and story of people born with a genetic absence of pigmentation in their skin, eyes and hair, belonging to a black ethnic group but have white skin. The exhibition addresses the lack of understanding of their condition and their rejection of their own world. These portraits and the stories contributes to countering myths seeking the dehumanization of persons with albinism.
The Exhibition has been in success and is displayed in CASA ÁFRICA, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria under the title “Albino, bajo la sombra del sol”.
